About Turkey

Turkey is already known for its great beach holidays, but there's so much more to the country than sea and sunshine. The landscapes are amazing, opportunities for sport endless, the cuisine delicious and sightseeing abundant.

Turkey has a violent past that's evident from the many battlefields, castles and palaces that dot its landscape. That means it's a great place for lovers of history, who can trace civilisation's earliest roots by what's been left behind. At the other end of the spectrum, Turkey is also great for a relaxing hamam and a dip in the warm Mediterranean.

For a taste of the wild outdoors, try the Nemrut Dagi National Park. If it's good living you're after, head to Istanbul, with its stylish bars, markets and restaurants.

Turkey's turbulent history has created a people with a deep passion for their country. But the Turkey of today is much less stormy: the people's passion is expressed in simple ways - through food, music and football. Turks are easygoing people who know how to enjoy life.

For the ambitious property investor, Turkey is an excellent prospect right now. The economy is growing rapidly - by around 9% a year. This stands in stark contrast to its debt-ridden neighbour, Greece, and represents progress that far exceeds the expectations of economists.

The quarter to the end of June 2011 saw economic growth rise to an amazing 11%. That's faster even than China. This growth outpaced every other member of the Group of 20 developed economies.

Back in 2009, TV's A Place in the Sun picked Turkey as the third best place worldwide to invest in property. Since then, the economic outlook has only improved. And prospects are still improving - Turkey is in line to join the EU in 2013, and the changes to the Land Registry Law and other legislation have made property investing even more simple and lucrative.

There's never been a better time to invest in Turkish property.
