Turkey also has a stunning history, with the evidence of 13 civilisations all around you. It's a massive country nearly four times the size of the UK and is covered with glorious scenery in the shape of forests and lakes.

Coastline is big news in Turkey. Surrounded by three seas - the Black Sea, the Mediterranean and the Aegean, it has around 5000 miles of coast. Of course, if you prefer cities to beach life and landscapes, the 24-hour pulse of Istanbul awaits. This is a modern city with every conceivable form of shopping, nightlife and cuisine.

But the serious property investor will want to know about the Turkish economy. It's one of the world's fastest growing, with a low inflation rate of 7%. While inflation is forecast to drop even further, GDP is on the way up. From 2002 to 2010, it rose from US $230 billion to US $736 billion. It's a rate that's predicted to rise by 6.7% per year until 2017. In fact, Turkey is now the world's 16th largest economy, with more than US $94 billion of foreign direct investment over the last eight years.

Getting to Turkey is easy, with airlines such as BA, Easyjet, Fly Thomas Cook and Lufthansa flying from the UK, and the number of visitors from the UK is rising by around 15% a year. Property investors in Turkey will be pleased to know that they can fully transfer their profits abroad.
